A law proposed by the Infrastructures Minister, Uzi Landau (Likud) would place Israel’s electricity under “rabbinical supervision,”. Under the law, the Chief Rabbinate would assign supervisors to all Israeli power plants to ensure they operate according to the Jewish Halacha. Supervisors will be authorized to close down power stations that would infringe the Rabbinate’s directives, as well as limit the sale of electrity from specific utilities during Shabbat or Jewish holidays.

According to a report commissioned by the Ministry of National Infrastructures’ Fuel Administration, oil companies are adding the expense of their convenience stores to the price of fuel, and thus raise its price by 10 percent. Even though five months have passed since the report was filed and while the report recommends that the price of fuel should be dropped, the Minister of Infrastructures, Uzi Landau (Israel Beitenu) has done nothing about it.
