More than a hundred reserve soldiers signed a petition calling for cutting off the Gaza Strip of electric power and other utilities.  The petition wording is  ”We call on the Israeli Government to cut off electricity, water and any other critical resource to the Gaza Strip in order to create deterrence ahead of a decision about a ground invasion.”

A law proposed by the Infrastructures Minister, Uzi Landau (Likud) would place Israel’s electricity under “rabbinical supervision,”. Under the law, the Chief Rabbinate would assign supervisors to all Israeli power plants to ensure they operate according to the Jewish Halacha. Supervisors will be authorized to close down power stations that would infringe the Rabbinate’s directives, as well as limit the sale of electrity from specific utilities during Shabbat or Jewish holidays.
