Approximately 5,000 out of 15,000 people engaged in prostitution in Israel are teenagers, according to data released by the youth advocacy organization Elem, which helps youth at risk, and the Ministry of Welfare.  According to estimates, at least 90% of those engaged in prostitution are controlled by pimps.  The prostitutes enter the profession as minors, with an average age similar to that of their contemporaries in the rest of the World: 12-14.
