The Ministerial Committee for Legislation decided to authorize a proposed bill that grants a tax break on donations for “encouraging settlement”. The proposition, forwarded by Likud MKs Ze’ev Elkin and Zion Pinyan grants a tax break of up to 35% on donations to settlements in the Galilee, Negev, and West Bank.

The Israel Tax Authority told the Peres Center for Peace they could receive tax exemptions on donations only on the condition that they canceled a project for the medical training of doctors from the Gaza Strip in Israeli hospitals. As a result of the demand, which was given in writing a year and a half ago, the center decided to suspend its application for the tax break.
