Tel Aviv Municipal Council Member, Binymain Babaioff (Shas), asked in a letter to the Mayor, Ron Huldai, and to Moshe Tiomkin, Head of the Municipal Transportation Unit, for special buses to be allocated for immigrant workers and asylum seekers, or alternatively to limit their access to public transportation at rush hour. According to the letter, “since these workers sleep in parks and stairways and do not shower on a daily basis, they have a terrible smell and may spread diseases.”

A conference on women’s medicine is planned for next week by the Puah Institute, but female doctors and researchers will not be able to give lectures, and gender segregation will be enforced.  The conference, titled “Innovations in Gynecology/Obstetrics & Halacha”, will discuss birth control and abortions, treatment of health issues in pregnant women, dietary supplements for pregnant and nursing women, as well as other issues.  The Puah Institute is publicly funded.

Tanya Rosenblit, who ignited a battle against the exclusion of women when she refused to sit at the back of a gender-segregated bus, reported to the inter-ministerial committee on the exclusion of women that she has been receiving death threats.

Beit Shemesh mayor Moshe Abutbul said in 2008 that the new shopping center in the city would be open only to the Haredi community as far as he was concerned, saying “if a girl came to the center dressed provocatively it could cause quite a stir”.

Haredi men in Beit Shemesh spat on a 7 year old girl because, according to them, she passed them wearing “immodest clothing”.  The men were filmed spitting on women passing through the street, and according to local residents women in town are afraid of sitting in the front of buses.

The Second Authority for Television and Radio approved the program schedule of Ultra-Orthodox radio station Kol Barama in which women are allowed to speak in just 2 out of 168 weekly broadcast hours.

Magen David Adom will establish a station house strictly for Haredim in the heart of the Beit Yisrael neighborhood of Jerusalem.  The station house will include only Haredi men, without any women.

Rabbi David Druckman, Chief Rabbi of Kiryat-Motzkin, was questioned by the Police on suspicion that he signed a manifesto calling on Jews not to hire Arabs.  Following his interrogation he said that “the most normal thing is for a Jew to hire only Jews”.
