Activists of the “Solidarity with Sheikh Jarrakh” movement claim that police exerted severe violence on them in the protest against the settlement of Ma’ale Zeitim in East Jerusalem. Activists say that police used a stun gun against demonstrators, and even broke the arm of a female demonstrator. Six demonstrators were arrested.

Some government ministers intend to attend the inauguration ceremony for new settlement “Ma’ale Zeitim”, in Ras al-Amud neighborhood in East Jerusalem next week. The ceremony will be held during the visit of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the United States. Among the guests in the ceremony will be Education Minister Gideon Saar (Likud), Minister of Environmental Protection Gilad Arden (Likud), Ministry of Interior Eli Yishai (Shas) and Minister of Science Daniel Hershkovitz (“Jewish Home”). In addition, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud), and the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, will attend. The event is an initiative of the neighborhood committee, “Ateret Cohanim” Yeshiva, the Jerusalem lobby in the Knesset, and Dr. Irving Moskowitz, sponsor of the neighborhood, and his wife Cherna.
