The Israel Tax Authority has given Menachem Livni, one of the former heads of the Jewish Underground and now a farmer in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, approximately NIS 1,327,123 in compensation for theft and vandalism on a Palestinian land he’s been cultivating. The compensation has been granted despite the fact that documents submitted to the High Court of Justice  show that Livni is cultivating the land illegally.

The Israel Tax Authority told the Peres Center for Peace they could receive tax exemptions on donations only on the condition that they canceled a project for the medical training of doctors from the Gaza Strip in Israeli hospitals. As a result of the demand, which was given in writing a year and a half ago, the center decided to suspend its application for the tax break.
