A comprehensive survey of about 5,000 families, a representative sample of the Israeli population, which was conducted by the National Insurance Institute (NII), reveals that 10% of Israelis have experienced hunger (AKA “nutrition insecurity”) last year. Two percent all Israelis suffer from severe hunger.

According to the alternative poverty index of “Latet”, an advocacy organization, there are 1.77 million poor people residing in Israel; over 850 thousand of them are children. 75% of the poor have to give up dinners due to their economical status – a rise of 21%, compared to last year. 69% of the poor said they were unable to pay for food necessary for basic living, and they are supported by food-distribution societies.
