A confrontation broke out between the Speaker of the Knesset, Reuven Rivlin, and MK Henin Zuebi, after the latter claimed that the education system discriminates against the Arab pupils. Her remarks followed a report that the Mekif Z School in Jaffa refused to allow students to speak in Arabic. After Zuebi said “this is a problem of the Israeli school system, which did not teach for 60 years our language, Arabic”, Rivlin told her: “You’re trying to make propaganda. There’s a limit to tolerance, as well. You’re trying to turn the Knesset into a bully pulpit against the State of Israel. You want to use that pulpit so that Arabic will also be spoken in the state”. MK  Henin Zuebi (Balad) came to meet with the Balad student club in Haifa University. During her visits, verbal confrontations broke out between Balad-supporting students and Jewish students, who tried to block her entrance to the university. The Jews, some of them Im Tirzu activists, shouted at the Arab students “terrorists” and “go to Gaza”. The Im Tirzu activists sang the anthem and held, inter alia, a sign saying, in Hebrew and Arabic, “Welcome to the State of Israel – the State of the Jews”. (Hebrew)
