A children’s basketball match between Elitzur Ra’anana and Maccabi Alfei Menashe was stopped after the Ra’anana coach refused to allow his team to play against a team which included a girl, claiming that some of his team members are religious and forbidden from touching females. The Alfei Menashe coach refused to bench his team member, and a technical win was granted to Elitzur Ra’anana. An inquiry made by blogger Hanan Cohen found that this is not a unique case and that the basketball association regulations allow integrating girls in games only if the opposing team agrees.

A number of observant employees of the Bank of Israel left a Memorial Day ceremony held at by the bank in protest over the performance of singer Shuli Natan. Other employees chose not to attend the ceremony for the same reason.

Haredi soldiers have announced that they will boycott the Memorial Day ceremony in the IDF’s Naval Commando base in Atlit if it will include women singing.

During an acrobatics performance in Modi’in a woman who volunteered to participate went on stage. On the request of Haredi crowd members the woman was removed from the stage after a short while and only men were asked on stage thereafter. (Haaretz)

In order to receive the strict mehadrin kashrut certificate from Agudat Yisrael’s Badatz (Rabbinical Court), the Haredi-owned Heimische Essen restaurant in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem will stop employing waitresses on Thursday evenings, when large numbers of yeshiva students patronize the eatery. A booklet distributed to officers by the IDF’s Chief Rabbi, Brigadier General Rafi Peretz, contains political views. The booklet presents the thought of Rabbi Eli Sadan who discusses the limits of “governmental morality”, explains the cause of “Price Tag” pogroms and claims that the IDF does not discriminate against women.
