Activists protesting against the Jerusalem Municipality’s policy to “Jewify” neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, were forced to leave the premises when it turned out that the mayor, Nir Barkat, was dining in a nearby restaurant. “Lots of policemen and security personnel arrived, it was ridiculous”, said one of the demonstrators. This took place despite the small size of the group of activists.

The IDF uses CS type tear gas for dispersing demonstrators, which research shows may be dangerous, and is known to have caused deaths. According to Dr. Daniel Argo, an Israeli physician participating in the demonstrations against the separation fence, the use of CS gas in large batches, as the soldiers do in demonstrations, is particularly dangerous. Dr. Argo said further that recently sustained injury to the eyes, skin disfigurement and respiratory diseases, all of which can be connected to the use of CS gas by the IDF, were diagnosed. (Hebrew)
