The municipality of Jerusalem demolished two buildings built without permits in the northwester neighborhood of Beit Hanina, even though approximately 30 Palestinians lived in the houses. (Haaretz)

A molotov cocktail was thrown at a Jerusalem Light Rail train in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina.  No one was hurt in the incident, but the train’s window was shattered.

Jerusalem’s Prosecutor’s Office will cancel all charges against Udai Biomi, Resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina, who was held for 21 days on charges of aggravated assault of a police officer based on the testimony of two Border Police officers.  CCTV footage shown in the courtroom revealed that it was actually Biomi who was assaulted by the officers. The Israel Land Fund (ILF) evicted Palestinian families from houses in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina, which it is now offering for free to Jews from the area. (Ha’aretz)

Settlers and Settlements: April 18, 2012

A Palestinian family was evicted from its home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina.  The father of the family of 11 was arrested.  Settlers entered the complex shortly after the eviction. (Haaretz)

A Palestinian without a criminal background from the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina  was arrested approximately a month ago on suspicion of reckless driving in a stolen vehicle in Jerusalem.  The District Court ruled that he did not pose a danger to the public and must be released to house arrest, but four days later police officers arrested him again on the same charges.

In its Protection of Civilians weekly report, The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) records [PDF] 9 incidents of Palestinians being assaulted by settlers in the past week. The incidents took place in Qaryut, Silwan, Burin, Hizma, Beit Hanina, the Qalqilya and Nablus governorates.

The police and security forces demolished a home in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Occupied East Jerusalem. This is the second demolition in the neighborhood over the past few days. (English)
