Military Advocate General is going to close the file regarding the killing of four Palestinian citizens who were carrying white flags, among them a three year old, during operation “Cast Lead”. This is in spite of the fact that they were unarmed. In a testimony before the Tirkel investigation commission, Chief Military Advocate General, Brigadier General Avichai Mandelblit, said that there has not been found evidence, that the troops shot against the orders.

The military judge advocate, Major General Avihai Mendelblitt, decided to close the investigation against former Kfir brigade commander, Colonel Itay Virov. Colonel Virov was suspected of instructing his soldiers to use force against detained Palestinians. In court testimony, defending one of his soldiers, Virov said that “a slap to the face, sometimes a blow to the back of the head and sometimes kneeing for the purposes of calming down [a prisoner] is reasonable. We’ll burst into a thousand houses to get a single AK-47. Is there a table saying what is allowed and what is forbidden? No, and it’s impossible to have one.” “Studying Virov’s testimony, it does not seem that his intention was to permit violence for violence’s sake, but to refer to cases in which the use of violence is necessary, given the mission”, wrote Mendelblitt. Graffiti curses were sprayed last night on the wall of Chief Military Prosecutor, Major General Avihai Mandelblitt, calling him a traitor. Flyers were also attached to a vehicle parked near his home, saying: “Mandelblitt, don’t get in our way when we’re fighting” and “get your hands off an Israeli soldier.” Graffiti was also sprayed outside Mandelblitt’s home comparing him to Judge Richard Goldstone, who investigated the events of Operation Cast Lead (Hebrew).

Unknown persons have posted (Hebrew) bills next to the house of the judge advocate, Major General Avihai Mendelblitt, writing “the judge advocate resides in our neighborhood… Unlike the rest of the soldiers, who give their lives away for us, Avihai is just a hindrance”.
