Data released by the Jerusalem Police District shows that in 2012 there were 56 “Price Tag” attacks, mainly targeting Arabs. In only 12 of the cases were suspects arrested, but charges were not filed against all of them. In comparison, during 2011, 28 “Price Tag” attacks were documented.

Abdul Karim Lafi, an architect and chairman of the parents committee in Beit Safafa, was arrested and taken in for an interrogation at 2 am on the charge of calling for a strike in Beit Safafa schools to protest the construction of road number 4 that will take 250 dunums of private land and split the village in two. In addition, village residents have complained that ever since their protest has started, Israeli authorities have increased enforcement policies in the village, including sending in tax agents. Israeli troops detained Nasser Shiyoukhi, an Associated Press photographer, during West Bank unrest over the weekend, handcuffing him and forcing him to sit on the ground without food or water or access to a bathroom for roughly five hours. (AP)

Two Eilat city councilors were arrested by the Police’s National Fraud Investigation Unit on suspicion of accepting bribes in exchange for retracting their opposition in local and regional planning commissions, extortion by threats, fraud, and breach of trust.

A number of defects were discovered in the Jerusalem Police Department’s procedures, including faults in police officer’s testimonies, unjustified arrests and indictments based on vague evidence. This led, among other things, to the arrest of Beit Safafa resident, Wael Aliyan, for five months on suspicion of indecent assault and threats, only because he wore a green shirt that was mentioned in two of the victims’ testimonies.
