Heavy confrontations took place tonight between the residents of Silwan in Eastern Jerusalem and forces of the police and the Border Police. According to the Palestinians, the incidents began after Border Policemen entered a house and beat up an old woman. Following this incident, dozens of young men stoned the position, and the policemen fled the scene, leaving behind an ammo box. After the Jerusalem Police Command found out the box was missing, large police forces entered the street. Palestinian testimonies show that the policemen broke into house, beat up residents, caused damage to property, confiscated property without warrants and arrested nine residents. (Hebrew)
