Israel is considering punitive measures towards the Palestinian Authority, after the UN Human Rights Council decided to form an internationl committee to investigate the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, a decision proposed and advanced by the PA. According to a high-ranked Israeli official, at least three ministers of the eight-minister forum support freezing the Palestinian tax revenues collected by Israel for the PA – Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beiteinu), Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz (Likud) and Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe Yaalon (Likud).

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon (Israel Beitenu) said that Israel will not cooperate with UN Human Rights Council’s fact-finding mission established to probe the effects of settlements on Palestinian human rights. He added that “As far as Israel is concerned, the U.N. committee has no effect – political nor moral – and therefore we will not allow them to work here”
