Settlers and Settlements: October 31, 2012

Peace Now has revealed that two new illegal outposts have been built in the West Bank since 2005.  The first outpost, Talei Tal, was built near the settlement of Talmon.  The second outpost, Tzofim North, has been built near Qalqilya.

The State Attorney’s Office announced to the Village Council Heads the West Bank villages of Ein Arik, Dir Abziya, and Beitunia, that an expropriation act of 590 dunam [about 146 acres] of their residents’ land has been annulled. The announcement follows an appeal to the High Court of Justice. The expropriated land was designated for building a shorter road from the settlement of Talmon to Jerusalem.

Settlers uprooted about 50 trees near the village Al Janiya in the vicinity of the settlement Talmon.

Judiciary: November 20, 2011

The High Court of Justice approved a construction plan that would legalize illegal construction in the settlement of Talmon in Judea and Samaria.  The Justices stated that since the construction plan is much more comprehensive than the simple legalization of a specific building, there is no call for not approving it.

Military and Security Forces: 4th November, 2010

Three children – aged 5, 11 and 12 – from the Talmon settlement in the West Bank were detained (Hebrew) by an IDF officer, and were called for an inquiry in a police station, under suspicion of stealing olives from a Palestinian orchard. According to their father, one of the soldiers joked and told them to raise their hands in the air. According to the father, “The children did not think it was funny and were very scared”.
