A chief sargeant at the IDF was indicted at a military court for a series of offences, including sexual abuse, sexual assault and misconduct on female soldiers serving at his base.

Military and Security Forces: November 8, 2012

According to an activist’s facebook post, soldier fired live ammunition at a group of stone throwing youths during the weekly demonstration in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh.  Later in the day the soldiers fired gas grenades and rubber coated bullets into houses in the village, injuring 4 of the residents.  A young girl was injured by a bullet, and a boy sustained cuts to his face.

A combat soldier in the Israel Defense Forces’ Kfir Brigade was hospitalized after reportedly being beaten by other soldiers in his unit. Apparently, behind the violence is an argument over seniority, and tensions between “greener” soldiers and longer-serving ones.

IDF female soldiers who were securing the Ramat Gilad outpost on the left bank were attacked by settlers on Monday night. The attackers verbally abused the soldiers, called then “Nazis” and chased them to their residence. In response, the IDF decided to discontinue securing the outpost. Top brass at IDF criticised the settler leadership for their feeble response to this affair.

IDF data shows that in the past four years the number of soldiers requiring financial assistance has risen dramatically.  In 2007 24,000 soldiers received financial aid, while in 2011 their number had risen to 31,000.

Military and Security Forces: 6 May, 2011

The Alternative Information Center reports that soldiers assaulted Palestinian laborers on May 1 (International Workers Day). In the village of Al-Zaeem, east of Jerusalem, soldiers reportedly threw stoned towards two Palestinians. One of the Palestinians sustained a severe head wound. In another case, soldiers unleashed dogs at three Palestinians west of Hebron.
