Settlers and Settlements: May 19, 2012

Dozens of settlers threw stones at houses in the Palestinian village Asira al Qibliya, close to the settlement of Yitzhar. During the confrontation one Palestinian was shot in the face, and another suffered a head wound from a stone thrown at him. Yitzhar settlers claimed the incident was started  by Palestinians burning fields near the settlement.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) has published a study which documents human rights violations by Israel towards Palestinians, between March 30, 2011 and April 12, 2011. The study mentions a number of incidents of shootings by IDF at civilians, in both the Gaza strip and the West Bank, as well as closing of the Kerem Shalom crossing to prevent entry of goods to the Gaza strip area during the recent military operation.

Military Advocate General is going to close the file regarding the killing of four Palestinian citizens who were carrying white flags, among them a three year old, during operation “Cast Lead”. This is in spite of the fact that they were unarmed. In a testimony before the Tirkel investigation commission, Chief Military Advocate General, Brigadier General Avichai Mandelblit, said that there has not been found evidence, that the troops shot against the orders.
