The military reporter for Channel 10 news, Or Heller, had received death threats following the publication of the recording of a conversation between Lt. Colonel Shalom Eisner and Hagit Rhein, mother of Major Benaya Rhein who was killed during the Second Lebanon War, in which Eisner sharply attacked the IDF Chief of Staff. “In the last few days I’ve received death threats,” said Heller, “I’ve had calls and hang-ups, received emails with assorted wishes that I die in one way or another. They call me a Nazi”. Over the last few days there has been a few publications by, among others, the Latma website and the My Israel movement, who launched a viral internet video against him. At the same time, a petition was initialized, asking to expel Heller from his position.

“Israel Readings,” a study booklet for the Officer’s Training School’s (Bahad 1) entrance exam omits many details of the history of the State of Israel.  For example, in the entry about Former President Moshe Katzav, the fact that the former president is charged with rape is ommited.  In the entry about the Second Lebanon War, the Winograd Committee’s report criticizing the IDF’s performance in the war is not mentioned at all.

Minister of Interior Eli Yishai (Shas) stated that Israel lost the Second Lebanon War because it has moved away from God. He said, “what do you think? that you can have success without divine assistance? Without the Torah of Israel? Without the students of that Torah?” Yishai further said that the parents of the migrant laborers’ children “abuse them”: “it is scary to go into South Tel Aviv. The police is afraid of them.”
