Ilya Gordiyenko, an Ashdod resident, was assaulted by nine police officers after refusing to accompany them to the police station without being told what he was suspected of. The officers claimed that the suspect assaulted them, but a video of the arrest shows their version to be a lie. However, the judge refused to watch the video and extended Gordiyenko’s detention, who was later fully acquitted of all charges.

The Haifa Regional Court last month overturned a police determination that an Arab man who stole a weapon from a security guard and was subsequently shot to death in 2007 in the old city of Jerusalem, was acting out of nationalistic motives.  The court ruled that the police gave false information to the media, was acting out of prejudice, and that the officer in charge of the investigation gave false testimony in court.
