The Haifa Magistrate’s Court sentenced police investigator Avraham Kalifa to 14 months in prison after he was convicted of abuse of authority, breach of trust, and indecent assault. The investigator conducted the indecent act to a young woman who came to the station to give testimony.

The municipality of Nazareth-Illit has started a process to change the city’s name and disconnect it from the name Nazareth, following an appeal by Rabbi Haim Kanievsky to the city’s mayor, Shimon Gapso, in which he stated that the current name does not sound good to Jewish ears. (HeHadrey Haredim)

Ze’ev Hartman, Nazareth Illit city council member, attacked the Ministry of Education for its decision to implement integration between Jewish and Arab kindergardeners. Hartman said that the residents of Nazareth Illit are familiar with the Arabs and that “there is estrangement because Arabs murder Jews. There is estrangement because the Nazereth mosque’s Imam calls for the murder of Jews.”

The police recommend bringing the mayor of Nazareth Illit, Shimon Gapasu, to trial, on charges accepting hundreds of thousands of shekels worth of bribery since being elected for office in 2008.

The Galilee Development Authority published a call, on its website, to join a founding group for the “Im Tirzu” movement, in Nazareth Illit. The website states that “Nazareth Illit has been in recent years suffering negative migration of Jewish population, and thus also losing its Jewish Zionist spirit”. The specific post was later removed from the website.

Shimon Gapasu, mayer of Nazareth Illit, was arrested on suspicion of having received bribes and will remain in detention until Thursday. Additionally, the detention of his bureau chief, Meshi Snuani, and his assistant, Yakov Goldberg. Gapasu is also suspected of the crimes of brokering bribes, money laundering, fraud, and violation of fiduciary responsibilities, as well as conspiracy to commit a crime and electoral fraud. (Hebrew)
