IDF armor tanks last week caused severe damage to one of the most important nature reserves in the Negev, the Great Streams reservation. The tank crews drove through the area, against agreements of the Military with the Nature and Parks Authority, ignoring signs prohibiting the driving.

The Minister of the Interior, Eli Yishai, cancelled plans to declare a nature reservation in Shilo Creek in Samaria, in order to enable the Haredi city of ELAD to expand at the expense of the same land. The plans to declare the reservation had been in deliberation for approximately ten years, and the Society for Protection of Nature in Israel stated that “the minister, with the wave of his quill, is canceling decisions that have been years in the making”.
