Jews residing near mosques and churches in Jaffa complain about the noise caused by the bell and the calls of the Muezzin, and summon policemen who interrupt the services. The Muslim and Christian communities in Jaffa have organized in order to fight the complaints. According to the chairman of the Orthodox Society in Jaffa, Adv. Gabbi Qaddis, “when the cops last came here, I told them: ‘What is wrong with you? Do you think I will complain to the police about the singing of a synagogue cantor? This isn’t Ramat Aviv or Ramat Hasharon. Our church stands since 1870, a long, long time before the [Andromeda Hill housing] project. This is a real threat to religious activity, and an attempt to stifle religious freedom, which is grounded in the Basic Laws”. (Hebrew)
