The Minister for Religious Services, Ya’akov Margi (Shas), has reportedly been receiving a pension of NIS 13 thousand in addition to his salary for the past 8 years, allegedly illegally. In total, Margi received over NIS 1.2 million so far. This was made possible by the interpretation of the law offered by former director general of the ministry, Atty. Moshe Shimoni, husband to the granddaughter of Shas’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
