The Student Union at the Safed Academic College has approved a new protocol that establishes military or national service (open to Jews only) as a prerequisite for students applying for the position of union chairman. 55-60% of the college’s 2,500 students are Arabs.

A 14 year old boy reported that his class was asked in school to answer the question “what does it mean to be a good Jew?”. The teacher wrote several answers on the blackboard, including: serving in the army, marrying another Jew, visiting holy sites, and supporting the state.

MK Moshe Matalon (Yisrael Beitenu) has proposed a bill which would prevent citizens who did not complete their military or national service from running for the Knesset in the next elections.

A bill proposed by Yisrael Beiteinu MK Faina Kirschenbaum would stop the state from participating in subsidizing tuition for any individual who has not completed a military service or the alternative civilian service.

Knesset Member Miri Regev (Likud) stated today that she would act to deny driving licenses from people excused by the army from doing military service. “I intend to act, in my capacity as Member of Knesset, to reward the people who bear the burden and to denounce those people who refrain from doing the required service,” said Regev.
