Central Election Committee Chairman Justice Elyakim Rubinstein has ruled that musical performances that took place in campaign rallies held by Labor and Meretz respectively are a violation of the Election Law. (Ynetnews)

A new bill proposed by MK Zehava Gal-On (Meretz) calls for bestowing the President with the authority to refuse to sign bills passed by the Knesset into law, if the bills contradict his world view.

During the deliberations in the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee regarding the bill to change the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee, a vote was taken on the bill after it was surprisingly changed at the last minute; no discussion was held on the new version of the bill.  During the heated debate that unfolded, five opposition MKs were thrown out of the room and committee chairman MK David Rotem (Yisrael Beitenu) even went so far as to tell MK Zehava Gal-On (Meretz): “Get out of here, you’re not even an animal”.

The deputy mayor of Tel Aviv, Meital Lahavi (Meretz) said (Hebrew), while discussing the evacuation of Kerem Ha’Teimanim, that “As I know them, the Yemenites are similar to Arabs”. She further said that “whoever claims I expressed myself in a racist manner, is ignorant of the fact that I am a proud Iraqi, who understands eastern mentality and defends it.”
