Activists protesting against the Jerusalem Municipality’s policy to “Jewify” neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, were forced to leave the premises when it turned out that the mayor, Nir Barkat, was dining in a nearby restaurant. “Lots of policemen and security personnel arrived, it was ridiculous”, said one of the demonstrators. This took place despite the small size of the group of activists.

A protest conference was held yesterday in the South of Tel Aviv, with approximately 100 local residents, rabbis, and politicians. Shlomo Massalawi (Likud) said that “the infiltrators’ desire to return to their own country proves that the stories about anyone returning to Sudan being killed are fairytales made up by the New Israel Fund organizations.” Additionally, members of the Kipa Achat forum, which unites several Jewish organizations, has declared that it will start promoting religious settlement in the south of the city, in order to “bring back a Jewish character to the south of Tel Aviv.” (Hebrew)

Didi Hershovitz, member of the Jerusalem City Council on behalf of Yisrael Beitenu, stated in an interview that his goal is to Jewify the entire old city basin in Jerusalem. Hershkovitz said further that he supports anyone who calls for no sale of apartments to Arabs. “The situation on the ground is that they don’t let us live wherever we want, and we – because of the politically correct [sic] that we adopt in this country, let Arabs live anywhere they want. I am angry about the discrimination between Jews and Arabs, so that Arabs can live anywhere they want and Jews cannot,” said Hershkovitz. (Hebrew)
