Assaf Yakutieli, the police officer on trial for allegedly causing the death of a badly injured Palestinian man, after leaving him on the side of the road without food, water or medical assistance, was investigated last week by the internal affairs division for obstruction of justice, after he allegedly harassed one of the trial’s central witnesses. A petition filed with the High Court for Justice reveals that the police internal affairs division has decided to close a case against officers from the Maale Edomim station following a complaint of abuse of a Palestinian detainee, and that the handling of the appeal filed following the decision is being delayed for more than a year.
