IDF spokesperson, Brigadier-General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, wrote to the Foreign Ministry to complain about a new propaganda video clip starring successful model Bar Rafaeli, as she did not serve in the IDF. According to Mordechai, it is “a message of leniency and turning a blind eye to draft dodging.”

A French national was injured following a direct hit by a gas canister shell during a demonstration in Nabi Saleh.  The IDF spokesperson claimed that the female protester was hit by a stone thrown by Palestinians, but a video of the incident proves otherwise.  The protester was evacuated to a hospital in Ramallah suffering heavy bleeding, but her injury is not considered serious.

Ninety Paratroopers Brigade recruits marched with the IDF unit’s banners through the Muslim Quarter in Jerusalem. The group of soldiers was lead by Rabbi Matti Dan, head of the Ateret Cohanim group. IDF Spokesperson’s Office said, “Unfortunately a group of civilians chose to take advantage of this dignified event (swearing-in ceremony) to create a provocation intended for the media. The fact that media outlets were invited to cover the event proves this was a planned provocation.” Ateret Cohanim, on the other hand, said that the tour was coordinated with the IDF and officers accompanied the group.

The Military Rabbinate recently distributed to soldiers a presentation for Hanukka containing a photo of the Wailing Wall [sacred to Jews] but replacing the adjacent Dome of the Rock [sacred to Muslims] with a halo of light. In response to queries, the IDF Spokesman replied that the slide shows an illustration image of Jerusalem during the Second Temple Period, when the Dome of the Rock did not yet exist. This despite the fact that the slide does not illustrate the Second Temple itself, of which the Wailing Wall is all that remains today, but does show an Israeli flag.

Five months after photo journalist Mati Milstein filed a complaint about soldiers firing tear gas directly at journalists during a demonstration in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh, Lieutenant Colonel Avital Leibovich, IDF spokesperson to the international press, has issued a response to the complaint.  According to Leibovich, “journalists who enter areas in which there is consistent violent and illegal disorder such as at Nabi Saleh – the responsibility is theirs, as is accepted in other areas of conflict around the world.”  Leibovich further claimed that there was no news value to the coverage of the Nabi Saleh demonstrations.
