The IDF’s Personnel Directorate decided that from now on all articles in the military weekly “BaMahane” will require prior approval by Chief Education Officer, Brig. Gen. Eli Shermeister. The decision follows the publication of the weekly’s Purim edition which featured soldiers dressed in drag. (Haaretz)

IDF data shows that in the past four years the number of soldiers requiring financial assistance has risen dramatically. In 2007 24,000 soldiers received financial aid, while in 2011 their number had risen to 31,000.

Even though the Ministry of Education decided to close down the “Od Yosef Chai” yeshiva in Yitzhar two weeks ago, the IDF continues to recognize it as a “High Yeshiva”, enrollment in which can defer military service.

Outgoing IDF Personnel Directorate head Maj. Gen. Avi Zamir sent a farewell document to Chief of Staff Benny Gantz. According to the document, the IDF has gone too far in responding to the demands of rabbis, and that for this reason it is excluding women from high-ranking position. Examples cited in the document include a battalion commander refusing female staff officers, the decreasing number of training posts for female soldiers, and combat troops refusing to accept female sharpshooting instructors.
