The Israeli Government has decided to vote NO on the Bill, proposed by Knesset Member Hanin Zo’abi (National Democratic Assembly), which intends to raise the minimum age of marriage from 17 to 18. This is in spite the fact that the Ministry of Education of the Government supports this act, which could prevent the forcing of girls to get married at a very young age.

Knesset Member Hanin Zo’abi (Balad) has stated that after the Gaza Flotilla she had sent a letter to the ministers of Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense and demanded an investigation into the reasons that personal effects of flotilla participants had been taken. The Adallah organization sent a similar letter, but she has stated that neither letter has received a response. It will be noted that after complaints by flotilla passengers were received, the Israeli Military Spokesman’s office has stated that “the personal effects of the flotilla persons was collectively loaded onto the Turkish airplanes used for deporting them. All of the magnetic media that had been on the boats was confiscated for security reasons, and the question of its return is currently being examined by the IDF.”
