In his reply to petitions filed against denying of rights of MK Haneen Zoabi, the Knesset legal adviser, Attorney Eyal Yinon, said that “the Knesset’s decision to deny some of the rights of MK Zoabi was done under authorization, and is proportionate and reasonable.”

The government has decided not to support a bill put forth by MK Haneen Zoabi which would raise the minimum age for marriage from 17 to 18. The Ministry of Education supports the proposal, as it would prevent forced marriage of young girls.

The Haifa University has denied the request by the BALAD student party in the university to hold a discussion that includes Knesset Member Haneen Zoabi. The Dean of Students explained that Zoabi’s participation in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla led to a delay of his decision. He added that “various party-affiliated student groups intend to use the event for violent clashes which could lead to bloodshed.” (Hebrew)
