According to high-ranked officials within the Home Front Command, the Israeli Home Front is deeply neglected due to lack of funds. In case of a missile attack, 1.7 million citizens will be left without shelter or protected space, 40% of Israel’s population will be left without protective NBC kits, plenty of school shelters cannot contain all students at once and the gaps between wealthy and poor local authorities are enormous.

Over the last decade, in which the city of Lod is governed by an appointed committee led by Lieutenant General (Res.) Ilan Harari and his successor Meir Nitzan, over 250m NIS were channeled to the city, along with special funds for development projects. Despite that, 71m NIS were left in the treasury, while workers and various associations did not receive payment for their work.
