A children’s basketball match between Elitzur Ra’anana and Maccabi Alfei Menashe was stopped after the Ra’anana coach refused to allow his team to play against a team which included a girl, claiming that some of his team members are religious and forbidden from touching females.  The Alfei Menashe coach refused to bench his team member, and a technical win was granted to Elitzur Ra’anana.  An inquiry made by blogger Hanan Cohen found that this is not a unique case and that the basketball association regulations allow integrating girls in games only if the opposing team agrees.
