The SHAY (Shomron ve’Yehuda) district of the police recommended not to indict two Border Guardsmen who wounded Emily Hanukovich in the eye. Hanukovich, a leftist protester, was hit six months ago by a gas canister fired to her face by a Border Guardsmen, According to her family, the canister was shot directly at her, contrary to regulations. Adv. Michael Sfard, representing the family, claims that the police interrogators were negligent; he says witnesses, among them a team of Haaretz newspaper who photographed the event, were not questioned. Sfard said further that “The SHAY district is the Border Guard’s waste disposal facility. Every death or injury investigation ends with the fragrance of lack of guilt. This case proves the negligence borders on coverup. Anyone who thinks there no need to interrogate objective witnesses, who said that the Border Guardsmen fired directly, obstructs justice and admits he has no intention of finding out the truth”.
