Rabbi Elyakim Levanon wrote in a bulletin distributed in the settlement of Elon More that “if a ceremony will take place in the IDF in which female singers are performing, I will instruct every soldier to request a leave of absence from his commander.  If a soldier will choose not to leave the ceremony but will instead use ear-plugs so as to not hear the singer – I will not force him to leave.”

Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, Head of the Hesder Yeshiva in Elon Moreh, announced that if the IDF forces soldiers to participate in ceremonies where women sing, then he would advise against drafting. According to Rabbi Levanon, this IDF decision constitutes a “forced  conversion” – a term that designates an attempt to eradicate Judaism. “Rabbis must direct soldiers to leave such ceremonies… even if a firing squad is waiting outside you must leave the place. It’s called “forced conversion”. As soon as the army issues such a coercive order, all norms are broken, everything is broken,” said the Rabbi.
