The Jerusalem municipality directed City Council members Eli Simchayof and Avraham Feiner to suspend themselves following their indictments in the Holyland scandal.

Eli Simchayof (Shas), who is suspected of having accepted bribes in the Holyland case, has been tapped for deputy mayor of Jerusalem, under Nir Barkat. The appointment goes to a vote next Thursday, despite the fact that Simchayof has been suspected of receiving hundreds of thousands of shekels as bribes, in return for permitting easements in the Holyland case.
