A letter attacking “HaBait HaYehudi” leadership candidate, Naftali Bennett, was sent to all of the party’s members.  MK Zvulon Orlev has admitted to sending the letter and appologized for it, though the admission and appology were issued only after the party’s election commission threatened that if Orlev did not admit to his involvement it would publish material in its possession linking his staff to the letter.

Among those elected to the Likud convention are, among others: Itai Harel, founder of the Migron outpost; Musa Alperon, who has been a member of the Likud convention since 2002; Meir Bertler; and Meir Goldmintz, head of the Shiru Lamelech yeshiva at the Havat Gilad outpost.  Both Bertler and Goldmintz are facing trial for breaking into the Christian site of Kasr al-Yehud near the Jordan River.  In response, the Likud stated that “the Likud constitution limits the rights of individuals who were convicted of criminal activity to be a member of the party, as well as his right to elect or be elected to the party’s institutions.  The Likud’s election committee will review any cases brought to its attention and decide on them according to the party’s constitution.”
