The Minister of Defence, Ehud Barak, turned to Labor Party Chairwoman, MK Shelly Yechimovich, and faction chairman, MK Eitan Cabel, asking them to withdraw their party’s no-confidence motion on the dignity of women in the Israel Defense Forces and lack of implementation of recommendations of the Segev report on integrating women in the IDF, claiming the motion would harm the IDF and its commanders.

Sources in Galei Tzahal, the Military Radio station, claim that officials from the staff of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, are trying to intervene in the station programmes. Special Operations command (“Mem-Mem”) in the Military Intelligence Directorate (“Aman”) is lacking supervision for years, and nobody reviews the methods and processes of acquiring special means necessary for covert operations. This is contrary to the well supervised procedures in the Mossad and Shabak, two other secret services. This has been revealed recently by an investigation of a military commission, appointed by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, to examine the actions of Lt. Col. Boaz Harpaz, who is suspected of forgery.

State Comptroller, Micha Lindenstrauss, states in his annual report that Defense Minister Ehud Barak, acted against the civil service rules when he transferred ownership on the company ”Ehud Barak Ltd” to his three daughters. According to the Asher committee’s decisions from 1977, a minister has to disengage from all business activities prior to taking office, and sell or lease his interests to a person outside his or her family.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that he objects to the demolition of Major Eliraz Peretz, who was killed on the Gaza border, despite the fact that the house was built in the Ali settlement, on privately-owned Palestinian land. Defense Minister Ehud Barak also said that he was “acting to find a judiciary solution that will avoid hurting the family of Major Peretz.”

The household of the Government Legal Counsel, Yehuda Weinstein, has employed a foreign worker without a permit. According to the Ministry of Justice, his employment was terminated back in 2009, before Weinstein was appointed as Counsel. “According to the check made by Mrs. Weinstein, and according to documents presented to her, the worker was legal and residing lawfully in the country at the time of his employment. She did not ask for any other confirmation”, said the Ministry. Weistein has previously informed the representatives of Nili Priel, the wife of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, he intends to indict her for employing a foreign worker. (Hebrew)
