During a spot inspection by the Public Defender’s office it was discovered that in contravention of a High Court for Justice ruling, detainees in the Jerusalem “Russian Compound” detention facility are provided with wooden pallets on wheels instead of beds.

Despite a court order, Jerusalem Police officers continue to lead detainees from the detention facility in the Russian Compound to the courthouse through a crowded street while handcuffed. (Haaretz)

Immigration inspectors arrested Geraldine Belingui, the 3 year-old daughter of an illegal immigrant. Geraldine was on her way to celebrate her 3rd birthday. MK Ilan Gilon (Meretz) was refused access to the detention center where the child was held and his aide was arrested on suspicion of vandalism. The Administration of Border Crossings, Population and Immigration said that the child’s father went back to the Philippines. The mother’s friends say that her husband is still in Israel.

The detention facility for work immigrants and their children is expected to be opened next week. The facility was built secretly in the past months in Ben Gurion International Air Port. In it children of work immigrants along with their families, will be detained before their expulsion. In accordance with Minister of Interior Eli Yishay’s order, The Israeli INS’ OZ unit inspectors, will start a wave of detentions as soon as the facility opens.
