The IDF will pay NIS 80,000 in compensation to A. a teenage Palestinian from South Hebron who was found innocent of rape after being falsely accused and spending 171 days in jail. A. was released after it became clear during the course of his trial that the investigation conducted by the Shai (Samaria and Judea) Police District and the military prosecution was significantly flawed. However, the compensation will come from “the district’s coffer,” i.e. funds that the state exacts from Palestinians and are permitted for use only within the West Bank.

Two prison guards, Michael Ben David and Shlomi Sevilia, were convicted of attacking a prisoner in their care, Shalom Levi, and sentenced in a bargain plea to two months of community work, a fine and paying NIS 2,000 in compensation to Levi.

An IDF combatant was sentenced to 14 days detention in a military prison after having his picture taken with handcuffed Palestinian detainees. In a separate case, another combatant posted a picture to Instagram in which a Palestinian child can be seen through a sharpshooter’s gun sight. (Ynetnews)

The Magistrate Court in Jerusalem extended by four days the detention of an 18 year old suspected of hitting an IDF officer during a right-wing protest at a checkpoint near Beit El following the evacuation of Ma’ale Rehavam outpost.

The Magistrate Court in Be’er Sheva convicted Danny Haveri, a police officer of the Southern District on charges of aggravated assault for kicking a Palestinian man from Hebron in the testicles. The Palestinian had to undergo surgery and one of his testicles was amputated.

Israeli troops detained Nasser Shiyoukhi, an Associated Press photographer, during West Bank unrest over the weekend, handcuffing him and forcing him to sit on the ground without food or water or access to a bathroom for roughly five hours. (AP)

Four Border Guard officers were charged with abuse after they put a Palestinian, apparently suffering from mental illness, inside a jeep with a dog, threatening to let the dog attack him, and pouring water on him, all because he did not have his identity card with him. The incident occurred at the El-Jib checkpoint, near Givat Ze’ev, north of Jerusalem.

During a spot inspection by the Public Defender’s office it was discovered that in contravention of a High Court for Justice ruling, detainees in the Jerusalem “Russian Compound” detention facility are provided with wooden pallets on wheels instead of beds.
