According to Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, two years ago the Ministry of Defense requested NIS 2.8 billion to build a 200km-long fence on the Israel-Egypt border excluding Gaza, while the Israeli Roads Company requested NIS 1 billion for the same work.

Approximately 40 right-wing activists broke through the border fence near the Jordanian border and established an outpost near the Qasr al-Yahud holy site in the buffer zone, near the Allenby Bridge.

Although the state told the High Court of Justice (Hebrew source) that it does not use the “hot return” procedure, by which soldiers hand over refugees to Egyptian border police, soldiers’ testimonies indicate the army still returns refugees to the Egyptians (Hebrew source). However, a group of reservists refused to perform the procedure, and received authorization not to perform it from its commanders.
