The State Comptroller has published his report on the “Harpaz document” scandal. The report says that those in IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi’s office and his associates led a campaign to gather dirt on Defense Minister Ehud Barak and that Ashkenazi was at least partially aware.  Further, the report determines that Chief of Staff aide, Col. Erez Weiner, discussed ways of obtaining slanderous information about Barak and his surroundings with Boaz Harpaz, who forged the Harpaz document. (Haaretz)

Channel 1 revealed that Ronit Ashkenazi, wife to former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, communicated with Col. (Res.) Boaz Harpaz and mediated communications between Harpaz and others for collecting information regarding Yoav Galant’s construction infractions. In addition, Mrs. Ashkenazi informed Harpaz two hours before the “Galant document” became public, and once investigations began she talked with Harpaz on the phone. Mr. Ashkenazi’s assistant, Erez Weiner, warned Harpaz that the police was on its way to him.

Special Operations command (“Mem-Mem”) in the Military Intelligence Directorate (“Aman”) is lacking supervision for years, and nobody reviews the methods and processes of acquiring special means necessary for covert operations. This is contrary to the well supervised procedures in the Mossad and Shabak, two other secret services. This has been revealed recently by an investigation of a military commission, appointed by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, to examine the actions of Lt. Col. Boaz Harpaz, who is suspected of forgery.

Boaz Harpaz is under suspicion of fabricating a document relating to the process for choosing the IDF chief of staff — offered partial testimonies and tried to extract from the Police interrogators what they know before giving their full version of the events. Some of the officers offered parts of the information only after being called in for a second time to provide testimony.

The anchor of “Yoman”, Ayala Khasson, exposed (Hebrew) that Ronit Ashkenazi, wife of Army Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, was in contact with the wife of Boaz Harpaz, suspect of forging the “Gallant Document”. The two exchanged 150 text messages. This is in contradiction of the Chief of Staff’s claim he did not know Harpaz or was in contact with him. The IDF Spokesman said in reply that “Lady Ayala Khasson is running, for some weeks now, a personal campaign against the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen, Ashkenazi, and for that purpose is abusing the Yoman program she anchors, as well as the entire news section of the Israeli Broadcasting Service”.
