The Ministry of Interior refuses to allow African asylum seekers to enter the Bnei Brak Population Bureau to seek shelter from the rain. Other people’s entrance to the building was not restricted, and the asylum seekers were told that there are different regulations for them.

Two bus drivers – one on the 402 bus line from Bnei-Brak to Jerusalem, the other on the 354 bus line from Ramat-Gan to Ashdod – refused to allow secular activists to board their gender segregated buses as part of protest against exclusion of women and gender segregation. The driver of the 402 line even threatened to break the activists’ cameras.

Education: May 17, 2011
Only 9.85 percent of the students in Bnei Brak are eligible for matriculation diploma, says data from the Ministry of Education. Other cities which are at the bottom of the list are: Qalansawe (with 32.7 percent), Modi’in Ilit (14.7 percent), Jisr az-Zarqa (12.5 percent), and Betar Ilit (6.5 percent).

The web site rotter.net reports that police tonight arrested a young ultra-orthodox man in Bnei Brak, after he threw Israeli flags on the floor, and stepped on them.

According to the National Council for the Child, in orthodox and Haredi communities, there is a higher instance of unreported child abuse, largely in part to the prohibitions rabbis make with regard to appealing to the authorities.

Ministry of the Environment started investigations against the municipalities of Or Yehuda, Bnei Brak and Yahud, for using leaf blowers on the streets. The new law enacted at the end of April prohibits the use of such devices.
