The office of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has announced that “actions taken yesterday at the Shepherd Hotel were carried out by private parties and in accordance with Israeli law. The government of Israel had nothing to do with the events. One should not expect the State of Israel to forbid Jews to purchase private properties in Jerusalem.” The announcement was given in response to the statement by U.S. Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, that the demolition of the Shepherd Hotel in the eastern part of the city damages the peace process.

The prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, announced he was willing to negotiate with the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), about all the core issues ‘until white smoke comes out”. This announcement contradicts the fact that Israeli representatives, Netanyahu among them, repeatedly reject official documents presented to them by their Palestinian counterparts, which contain the details of the Palestinian positions on the core issues to be negotiated. The prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, told the Knesset’s Security and Foreign Relations Committee that he agreed back in 1995 to a “Palestinian state-minus”, i.e. a limited state. The leader of the opposition, Tzippi Livni, replied to Netanyahu: “It’s stunning, how you describe an alternative reality and claim it is the truth”. Livni said that “in 2002 you told the Likud Central Plenum that ‘yes to a Jewish state means no to a Palestinian state, and it should be told no’. Let’s see you start changing the official Likud position”. (Hebrew)
