Senior employees at the Ashdod municipality, including a Deputy Mayor, were arrested on suspicion of aiding a crime organization to launder money and win construction tenders.

A leak in a central water pipe left hundreds of residents in Ashdod without water since last night. Municipality workers who came to fix the pipe met with aggressive resistance from Haredi residents living nearby who opposed the works taking place on Shabbat. The workers decided to postpone repair work until the end of Shabbat and deliver water tanks to residents instead.
