A 14 year old boy from Silwan was arrested for 30 days and held in isolation, and following his release was remanded to indefinite house arrest which prevents him from finishing his high school studies.

Two Palestinian teenagers from Shuafat charged with throwing a Molotov cocktail, to which they admitted, were detained for three months and then released today without condition when it turned out that no Molotov cocktail had been thrown on the day of the alleged incident and the Border Police officer who incriminated the teenagers was not on duty at the time.

A minor resident of the Jewish settlement in Hebron was arrested last night on suspicion of assault of a Palestinian in the city.  He was released on bail and was issued a restraining order from Palestinian shops throughout the West Bank.

A report by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel points out that in the last year and a half, the friction between the Arab population of Jerusalem and the police has increased, and the police discriminates against Arab residents of the city. The report refers to the excessive use of police riot control measures, detention of minors under the age of 12, conducting special enforcement operations, and giving more tickets in Arab neighborhoods as a means of exerting pressure on the population’s, and as a selective enforcement of law.

Some three months ago in the West Bank village of Nabi Salih, “A.D.” a 14-year-old Palestinian, was arrested in the middle of the night and interrogated about a demonstration in which he took part. The minor’s parents were not present and he did not have a possibility of consulting an attorney.
