Illegal outposts built in the West Bank on private Palestinian land are surrounded by a large “security” ring which prevents Palestinian from accessing their land even if it is not part of the outpost. Dror Etkes of Peace Now measured the size of the security ring around outposts and found that although the Pisgat Ya’akov outpost  takes up only 30 dunams of Palestinian land, the ring adds 640 dunams of private land. Migron subsumes 360 dunams inside the ring road while the buildings stand on an area of about 76 dunams. At Migron, Amona and Pisgat Ya’akov there have also been attempts to forge land sales. Only at Givat Assaf have the attempts led to an indictment, which was filed in 2007 against two inhabitants of East Jerusalem.

The State Attorney notified the High Court of Justice that it will only complete its handling of the Amona outpost dismantlement in December 31, 2012. The State Attorney’s statement says that demolition of illegal structures in the West Bank has diplomatic implications, and therefore political consideration influence law enforcement in the area.
