The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) published a part of their “Democracy Status: 2010” report, dealing with freedom of information. According to the released chapter, “the democratic space in Israel keeps shrinking, and the freedom of protesting is no longer taken for granted”. The report mentions the police’s prohibition of holding demonstrations in Bnei Brak, Um Al Fahm and Me’ah She’Arim, as well as bills intended to reduce the freedom of protesting. Inter alia, the report criticizes police behavior during demonstrations, accusing it of using excessive force against protesters, and arresting them without any legal cause.
